TMCF To Be Honored With AAF Mosaic Award

September 6, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 6, 2022) — The Thurgood Marshall College Fund will be the recipient of a prestigious American Advertising Federation (AAF) Mosaic Award on Friday, September 9, 2022, at The Capitale in New York’s historic Bowery neighborhood.

Alongside Ally Financial, TMCF will be presented with the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Student Program recognition for its Moguls in the Making program. This year’s student competition will take place at Ally’s office in Charlotte, North Carolina from Sept. 15-18, 2022.

All AAF honorees will be recognized for their unwavering commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion through their creative work, advocacy and company-wide initiatives. Each year, the AAF receives entries from companies and agencies across the country that are reviewed and judged by senior industry leaders.

This year’s Judges Council included senior executives from Amazon Advertising, Constellation Group, LERMA/, LinkedIn, Logitech, Meta, Mondelez, Ogilvy, Snap Inc., The Walt Disney Company, TikTok, and Wieden+Kennedy.

“This is tremendous recognition for our organization,” TMCF President and CEO, Dr. Harry L. Williams said. “One of our goals here at TMCF is to identify and cultivate top talent and global innovators from HBCUs for major companies through our programs and strategic partnerships.”

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s (TMCF) Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) Program teamed with Ally Financial and the Sean Anderson Foundation to find the best and brightest entrepreneurial minds among students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). This program looks for the greatest young minds, who think critically, creatively and are passionate about solving problems. TMCF and Ally Financial selected 15 colleges and universities to participate in the Moguls in the Making competition.

“As the world regains normalcy, multicultural communities are still working to balance the lingering impacts from the pandemic, racial injustice, and economic uncertainty. Authentic and purposeful creativity has proven it can positively impact society. The AAF continues to honor diverse and inclusive stories on a deserving stage at The Mosaic Awards for the past twenty years,” said Melanie Mitchem, AAF Mosaic Council Chair.

Attended by top thought leaders in the advertising and media industries, the Mosaic Awards brings professionals together for awareness, innovation, collaboration, and celebration.

“The Mosaic Awards remain a testament to all that a diverse and inclusive alliance of advertising experts and advocates can accomplish when we prioritize what is most important,” said Ayanna Jackson, EVP, Mosaic Center and Education Services, at the American Advertising Federation. “I’m proud to see the continuous strides our industry is making in amplifying underrepresented communities. These extraordinary creative concepts are a true celebration of the work that the AAF’s Mosaic Center highlights and improves every day.”

About the Thurgood Marshall College Fund
Established in 1987, TMCF helps America’s publicly supported Historically Black Colleges and
Universities (HBCUs), which educate 80% of the 300,000 HBCU students. TMCF provides access to higher education through scholarships and financial support, and prepares HBCU students to succeed in economically sustainable careers.

These programs are particularly critical since over 75% of HBCU students are low-income, with 97% relying on financial aid – and over half are the first in their family to attend college. TMCF’s programs help HBCU students stay in school and graduate – resulting in generational economic transformation as 70% of HBCU graduates enter the middle class permanently. TMCF is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable organization.
