THURGOOD MARSHALL COLLEGE FUND STATEMENT ON 2017 HIGHER EDUCATION ACT REAUTHORIZATION LEGISLATION

July 22, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC (December 1, 2017) – Today, Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Chairwoman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce, released her legislation to reauthorize The Higher Education Act (HEA). Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) appreciates Chairwoman Foxx incorporating provisions into the legislation, which expand the permitted use of Title III funds to include expenditures such as concurrent enrollment programs, technology enhancements and innovative initiatives.

In addition, in light of the devastating impact of Hurricanes Maria and Irma to the U.S. Virgin Islands, TMCF thanks Chairwoman Foxx for adding our member-school, the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), as a Title III B graduate school. Access to these necessary Title III B funds will help UVI establish a long sought after medical school and serve as a vital component to their hurricane recovery & rebuilding efforts.

TMCF’s bipartisan advocacy work with our Congressional partners will continue throughout the entire HEA Reauthorization process to ensure our nation’s HBCU’s continue to survive and thrive.
