Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) supports the decision of Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and the White House to postpone, not cancel, the 2017 National HBCU Week Conference.

The WSSU grant is funneled through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s Center for Advancing Opportunity, which for decades has supported the nation’s historical black college and universities.

Our students and our leaders deserve more than to be a catalyst for liberal or conservative groups to use the conference as an agenda amplifier; especially when HBCUs have hard work ahead in securing partnerships to promote and to bolster institutional strengths in STEM, national defense, public health, secondary education, entrepreneurship and business management.

Johnathan M. Holifield has more than 20 years of multidisciplinary business and government experience, which will help lead the critical work of developing a robust policy and budgetary agenda to positively impact HBCUs, including our 47 publicly-supported member-schools.

The National Hockey League (NHL) and Thurgood Marshall College Fund today announced the four recipients chosen for the NHL/Thurgood Marshall College Fund academic scholarship. Since 2012, the initiative has awarded scholarships to 15 exceptional high school students who are active in a Hockey Is For Everyone youth hockey organization, with goals of pursuing higher education in a variety of majors and interests.

We are pleased the FY’17 Omnibus Appropriations Bill maintains level funding for most of the key programs and budget lines impacting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and we view that as a win for HBCUs. We are pleased the 115th Congress increased funding for the several programs.

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund has spoken to the Trump Administration regarding the financing language and was assured there was absolutely no plan to eliminate or challenge this program.
