MONTGOMERY, AL (APRIL 14, 2021) – Black Raven Endurance Collective (BREC), partners in the Civil Rights Race Series, returns with the HBCU FundFest beginning May 1, 2021. In partnership with Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), the month-long charity run, cycle and walk challenge aims to raise $3 million to support Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) through donation of entry fees from the 31-day challenge. The events of 2020 have amplified the need to support the BIPOC community and HBCUs by investing in our future leaders. Throughout the month of May, participants can sign up to run, cycle and walk as a commitment to their health along with supporting TMCF. Black Raven Endurance Collective is a Black, disabled veteran-owned business on a mission to help bring more access, inclusion and economic opportunity for people of color within the endurance sports community.
Black Raven Endurance Collective has partnered with Thurgood Marshall College Fund for the inaugural HBCU FundFest to extend their support to each of the HBCUs while tackling issues that have affected members within the BIPOC community.
“It’s important to invest in HBCUs and the well-being of the future leaders of our nation,” said Virgil Chames, Raynard Lawler, Brent Hollowell, and Bill Reifsnyder, founders of the Black Raven Endurance Collective in a joint statement. “The HBCU FundFest will not only support HBCUs, but also encourage participants to get active to address the health disparities that affect people of color at disproportionate rates.”
Proceeds from the HBCU FundFest event will support TMCF to serve an essential role in providing educational access, recruiting diverse talent for career opportunities across the country, and providing leadership development training. The TMCF model produces the next generation of entrepreneurs, teachers, and community and corporate leaders who are ready to change the world by following in the trailblazing footsteps of the organization’s namesake, Justice Thurgood Marshall.
