In 1987, our founder sparked a vision: to ensure that the students of our nation’s public historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) had the resources, representation and runway to change the world.

As the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) enters its 40th year, we aren’t just looking back at the millions in scholarships we’ve awarded or the thousands of careers we’ve launched — we are looking forward. We are celebrating four decades of brilliance, resilience and the belief that unlocking access to higher education is the foundation of a stronger democracy.
Empowering the Next Talented Tenth
True celebration means creating more opportunity. For our 40th anniversary campaign, TMCF is debuting groundbreaking initiatives designed to discover, fund and elevate the next generation of transformational leaders.
- Championing top scholars: The Talented Tenth scholarship program will fuel the next generation of students.
- Igniting young minds: The inaugural TMCF Career Expo takes over Washington, D.C. on Jan. 19. There, thousands of high school students from the DMV area will connect with top-tier universities and world-class corporate partners — mapping their future before they set foot on a college campus.
- Scaling the mission: We are expanding our mentorship and executive readiness programs to prepare scholars for the global boardrooms of tomorrow.
