Thurgood Marshall College Fund Statement Supporting the Strengthening Minority Serving Institutions Act (S.3467)

WASHINGTON, DC (September 18, 2018) – The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) applauds Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) and his Senate co-sponsors on the introduction of the Strengthening Minority Serving Institutions Act (S. 3467). If passed, this bill would finally, permanently reauthorize mandatory Title III funding and provide necessary increases to critical funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) which, without such action, is currently scheduled to expire in 2019. Permanent investment in our HBCUs, PBIs and other MSIs is not only critical to the sustainability of these historically important institutions of higher education but also helps to ensure that the United States will continue to produce a talented and diverse workforce far into the future.
