Thurgood Marshall College Fund president appeared on WUSA 9 to encourage students to vote

October 25, 2024

Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) President & CEO Dr. Harry L. Williams appeared on WUSA 9 in Washington D.C. to encourage students of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and non-HBCUs to vote in the upcoming election.

Dr. Williams discussed the importance of voting, the gravity of honoring those who fought for the right to vote, and the historical implications of having the first HBCU graduate on the presidential ticket. He also emphasized the importance of voting in elections from the local level up, not just the presidential election.

“We educate students and let them make up their minds,” Dr. Williams. “This is an important election, but we want our students to also know about their local elections taking place in their communities.”

TMCF launched a voting advocacy campaign and social media toolkit in August targeted at students at its 55 member schools. The goal of the campaign is to educate students on their voting rights leading up to the November election.

“Your vote matters. People died for this right. We want our students to know this is not something to take lightly,” Dr. Williams said.
