The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and its Board of Directors recently recognized two business leaders to honor the influence and actions of outstanding role models to students at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) at its CEO Impact Award event on Martha’s Vineyard.
The luncheon event honored Shelley Stewart Jr. (Bottom Line Advisory) and Nicole Pullen Ross (Goldman Sachs). Larenz Tate, award-winning actor and the voice of TMCF, was the host for the event, which featured compelling testimonials from student scholars.
Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of TMCF, set the tone for the event.
“We are honored to recognize two exceptional individuals whose leadership, innovation and commitment to excellence embody the values of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund,” Dr. Williams said. “Their success inspires the next generation of leaders.”
Stewart, managing partner at Bottom Line Advisory, was recognized for providing leadership over four decades within the financial services and investment sectors, with dedication to advancing access and opportunity, which has created pathways for future generations of Black professionals and entrepreneurs.
“As a member of the Howard University Board of Trustees, Shelley continues to invest in the institution and students that represent the future of leadership — creating opportunities for the next generation of scholars, innovators and changemakers,” Racquel Oden, chair of the TMCF Board of Directors, said.
Stewart acknowledged the importance of investing in HBCU students during his acceptance.
“When we invest in an HBCU student, we are not just investing in one individual — we are investing in families, communities, industries and the future leaders who will shape our world,” he said.
Ross, region head of the Northeast Private Wealth Management business at Goldman Sachs and Hampton University alumna, was honored for using the power of education, opportunity and using one’s success to create pathways for others.
“Beyond her professional accomplishments, Nicole is deeply committed to service and community. She serves on the boards of trustees for the Charter School Growth Fund and Hampton University,” Sandra Buchanan, TMCF board member, said.
Ross reflected on the impact of her career.
“Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work with incredible clients, colleagues and organizations,” she said. “But one of the greatest privileges has been the opportunity to create opportunities for others and help open doors for the next generation.”
The event also included an online auction to raise money for deserving students. Featured items included a private Italian villa vacation; exclusive sporting event tickets and experiences; designer fashion items and much more.
Host committee members for the event were Johnny Bailey (Black Golf Club), Tatia Williams (NBA), Melonie Parker (Google) and Sandra Buchanan (Tradeweb Markets). TMCF scholars and alumni from Howard University, Hampton University, Delaware State University, Prairie View A&M University and Chicago State University were in attendance to share their success stories and network with guests.
