Washington, DC (March 17, 2015) – Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) will host its 15th anniversary Awards of Excellence (AOE) dinner in the Newark, New Jersey community at Nanina’s in the Park on Thursday, March 19th, beginning at 5:30 pm said TMCF President & CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr.
Lowenstein Sandler PC, a leading national law firm, is this year’s presenting sponsor. The Dinner Committee, chaired by Douglas S. Eakeley, Esq., a partner at Lowenstein Sandler PC, planned an event that will celebrate the achievements of individuals who positively impact the lives of our future leaders. The AOE honors community leaders in select markets for their professional and civic excellence, as well as their contributions to education and diversity. The 2015 Awardees include the Honorable Paul J. Fishman, U.S. Attorney (District of N.J.); David L. Harris, Esq., Partner, Lowenstein Sandler PC; Karen J. Kessler, Principal, Evergreen Partners, Inc.; Fr. Edwin D. Leahy, Headmaster, St. Benedict Preparatory School; and, the Honorable John E. Wallace, Former NJ State Court Justice, Sate of New Jersey.
TMCF Awards of Excellence programs were created in 2000 to recognize those distinguished individuals in a specific geographic location who serve as role models through their significant achievement in a chosen field, through community service, or by exemplifying Justice Thurgood Marshall’s commitment to justice, civil rights and education. These events have raised $1.7 million over the past 14 years and are annual reminder of Justice Marshall’s legacy and the great work of community leaders. By celebrating like-minded leaders, partnerships are forged by the AOE honorees and sponsors to support the students at TMCF’s member-schools that include publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), medical schools and law schools.
“These community leaders are role models who are building up the next generation and preparing them to become future leaders,” said Taylor. “We look forward to celebrating our awardees’ accomplishments and leadership!”
