One Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) scholar plans to graduate next year debt-free and with internship experience thanks to her experience with the organization.
Mia Dickens, a senior pre-law student at North Carolina A&T State University, plans to graduate without debt after receiving scholarships from Wells Fargo and McDonald’s through TMCF. In addition to helping Dickens pay for her degree without loans, TMCF helped expand her network and pursue career opportunities.
“My experience with TMCF has been amazing, from the scholarship awards I have received to the amazing professional conferences I have attended,” Dickens said.
Dickens participated in a Citi immersion program, DevCon and the 2023 Leadership Institute.
She said her favorite memory from Leadership Institute was meeting students from other historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Through the program, Dickens received multiple internship offers and ultimately chose an offer from Fidelity.
“I chose Fidelity because I believed it would allow me to gain good work experience in the field I want to go into after graduation,” Dickens said. “Through that experience I truly gained knowledge to market myself for full-time employment.”
Dickens aspires to become a finance lawyer after graduation. She plans to take a gap year before law school, working in corporate risk for either Bank of America or Wells Fargo in Charlotte, North Carolina.
