Support for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund through the Combined Federal Campaign creates impact on students and the workforce

October 31, 2024

Since 1987, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) has provided support for historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and their students through scholarshipsprofessional development and capacity-building efforts. TMCF has administered more than $500 million to propel these efforts since its founding.

By supporting TMCF through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), even more impact can be achieved.

TMCF has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of students. Ninety-three percent of all first-time, full-time undergraduate degree or certificate-seeking students who attend TMCF member schools rely on financial aid in their pursuit of a degree. Generations of low-income families have been elevated to the middle class permanently due to the impact of TMCF support.

“We know that our mission at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund is critical and we go to work each day ready to make a difference,” Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of TMCF, said. “We’re committed and invested in the lives and outcomes of our students and the institutions they attend.”

TMCF students have an incredible first-time, full-time freshman retention rate of 97%. TMCF supports the same students to complete their studies. Eighty-seven percent of TMCF scholarship recipients go on to earn their degree.

Approximately 75% of students attending the nation’s HBCUs are enrolled at a TMCF member school, making TMCF the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the Black college community.

Thousands of those students have attended TMCF’s signature program, Leadership Institute, over the years. Through Leadership Institute and other programming, TMCF students have found pathways from college to career with some of the top companies in America. Through these programs and partnerships, TMCF is an industry leader in helping create a diverse workforce.

“Providing support to TMCF is providing support to a more equitable future,” Dr. Williams said. “The impact is easy to see. Our students have often faced incredible odds to arrive at one of our member schools, so helping them achieve that goal of earning a degree or starting an incredible career is so fulfilling.”

If you work for an organization that supports CFC, you can invest in TMCF by finding it at CFC# 11691. The CFC works with more than 4,400 charities designated by federal employees, retirees and contractors. Last year, more than $70.1 million was pledged to local, national and international charities.
