Over 400 HBCU Students Gather For Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s 16th Annual Leadership Institute

July 22, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – November 15, 2016 – The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) will host over 400 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students from across the country at the 16th Annual award-winning Leadership Institute conference starting November 18th in Washington, DC.

The four-day conference culminates with an exclusive recruitment fair. Fortune 500 companies, government agencies and graduate program representatives offer jobs, internships, and continuing education opportunities to the HBCU students in attendance during their on-site formal interviews. Students are also invited to TMCF’s sold out black-tie, 28th Annual Awards Gala, themed “Developing Minds…Delivering Dreams,” also held at the Washington Hilton November 21, 2016.

“If it wasn’t for TMCF, I would have never had the opportunity to develop the professional skills needed to compete in today’s workforce,” said class of 2014 Leadership Institute student, Marcus Johnson. “I walked into a career with such a great company like Altria because of my time at Leadership Institute.”

TMCF’s Leadership Institute is a national program that aims to develop the students attendees leadership skills, create a community of like-minded scholars, provide companies and government agencies access to overlooked talented and diverse population of students, and help students make connections that lead to good jobs.

“When you ask me what TMCF is all about, I will tell you, come to Leadership Institute to see why we work so hard to provide opportunities for our HBCU students,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., TMCF President & CEO. “Our corporate and government partners should be commended for not only talking about finding ways to identify diverse talent but actively pursuing the best talent from our HBCUs.”
