Honda Celebrates 25 Million Vehicles Built in the US

July 22, 2019

Honda is celebrating the production of its 25th million vehicle in the United States—fittingly, a 2018 Honda Accord, which was named the North American Car of the Year at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. It was painted in obsidian blue pearl.

The Accord was produced at the Marysville Auto Plant, which was also fitting, as the plant was the automaker’s first in the country and also made Honda the first Japanese automaker to produce automobiles in the US when it originally opened in 1982.

Today, Honda operates five auto plants in the US in Ohio, Indiana, and Alabama, across which 12 different Honda and Acura cars and light trucks are produced. In these facilities and others involved in producing automobiles, Honda has invested nearly $14 billion, including $3.4 billion in the past four years.

To celebrate the milestone, Honda has created an annual scholarship fund for students pursuing educations in engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), starting with a $25,000 donation to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Recipients of the scholarship will also get the opportunity to interview for co-op and internship positions at Honda operations.

“This scholarship highlights Honda’s commitment to investing in HBCU students by creating scholarships, internships and opportunities for co-op positions for our scholars,” said Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of Thurgood Marshall College Fund. “Without corporate partners like Honda, we would not be able to help deserving students interested in engineering, supply chain management and other related fields achieve the American dream.”
