The U.S. Department of State recently announced its Fulbright HBCU Institutional Leaders for the 2024-25 academic year. Fourteen of the 20 honorees are Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) member schools.
Fulbright HBCU Institutional Leaders are selected based on their engagement with the Fulbright program. The initiative was established to recognize and commend the strong partnership between the Fulbright Program and HBCUs. It also recognizes HBCUs that host international faculty and graduate students, as well as send recent graduates, graduate students, faculty and administrators overseas to study, teach, conduct research or participate in seminars abroad through Fulbright.
“We’re proud to see so many of our member schools represented in this distinguished group of institutions and amongst the Fulbright alumni,” Dr. Harry L. Williams, president & CEO of TMCF, said. “This is unequivocal proof of the quality of education HBCUs provide and the talent of their graduates.”
Prominent Fulbright alumni from TMCF member schools are also featured, such as Frank Martin Snowden Jr., an HBCU professor and American diplomat with ties to multiple TMCF member schools; Oscar Barton Jr., current dean of engineering at Morgan State University; Ruth Simmons, an HBCU alumna and former president of Prairie View A&M University; Rhonda Collier, head of Global Programs at Tuskegee University; and Karl Jackson, a chemistry professor and science researcher at Virginia State University.
