WASHINGTON, DC – January 4, 2017 – The Thurgood Marshall College Fund’s (TMCF) President & CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. names Emily M. Dickens, J.D. as TMCF’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Relationship Officer. In this role, Dickens will contribute to TMCF’s overall mission and provide leadership and strategic direction in four major areas: Board of Director Relations, Policy and Advocacy, Member-school Administration Relations, and Legal.
Most recently, Dickens served as the Vice President for Public Policy and the Executive Director of the Center for Public Trusteeship and Governance at the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB). During her time at AGB, Dickens provided strategic direction for AGB’s public policy initiatives and new federal advocacy agenda. Previously, she worked in North Carolina as the Assistant Vice President for Federal Relations at the University of North Carolina system and as the Director of Government and Community Affairs at TMCF member-school Fayetteville State University (FSU). While at FSU, she secured over $7M in federal funding, realigning sponsorships to meet the strategic needs of the campus.

Dickens is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated and serves on the board of its Educational Advancement Foundation. She is also a member of the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association, the Advisory Board of the College of Arts and Sciences at North Carolina Central University and the North Carolina Bar. Dickens earned her B.A. and M.A. in History from North Carolina Central University and her J.D. from the North Carolina Central University School of Law, both TMCF member-schools.
