New York, NY (May 16, 2018) — The Columbia University School of Professional Studies (SPS) hosted a breakfast on Monday, May 14, 2018 to celebrate and recognize the first cohort of Columbia HBCU Fellowship to complete their master’s degrees. The event was held at the prestigious Skyline Ballroom, of the Faculty House on the Columbia University campus.

Dr. Harry L. Williams, President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), served as keynote speaker and provided inspiration to the attending fellows in attendance. This year’s inaugural class counted 22 Fellows; and the second class of 24 Fellows will begin their studies this fall.

Dr. Jason Wingard, Dean of SPS, Columbia University stated, “We are looking forward to the impact that the fellows are about to have on the world”. Since its founding, the School of Professional Studies at Columbia University has been committed to meeting the needs of diverse students and global employers—including providing access to populations who have historically been underserved by institutions of higher education. The Columbia HBCU Fellowship is a market-driven response to advancing this mission.”
