Black Thriving in America event scheduled at the University of Cincinnati

November 25, 2024

An event centered around the recently released Black Thriving in America 2024 report from the Dr. N. Joyce Payne Center for Social Justice (Payne Center) will take place at 4 p.m. EST on Dec. 2 at the University of Cincinnati (UC) Teacher-Dyer Complex.

Dr. M.C. Brown II, executive director and research scientist at the Payne Center, will provide the keynote address at Black Thriving in America: A Continued Conversation. Brown will present the findings of the report, which uses decades of Gallup research and captures the voices of 40 million Black Americans across six vital areas: justice, economic opportunity, education, jobs and work, health and wellbeing, and community and environment.

“It’s essential to continue the conversation surrounding this important work at this critical juncture in history,” Brown said.

The event will also feature an in-depth presentation on the criminal justice section of the report with an emphasis on the historical overrepresentation of Black Americans in the criminal justice system.

A distinguished faculty panel will also discuss the progress and challenges in other sections of the report, while engaging the audience in a conversation about public perception, policy and reform.
