BizBash Selects TMCF’s 30th Anniversary Awards Gala as One of Washington’s Top 100 Events

July 22, 2019

Washington, DC (November 28, 2017) – From galas and benefits, to entertainment, sporting events, and more, BizBash has announced its 2017 list of Top 100 Events in Washington and has named TMCF’s 30th Anniversary Awards Gala to this exclusive list. To select and rank these events, BizBash considers the event’s influence within the industry, in addition to innovation, reach, economic impact, and more.

TMCF’s Annual Awards Gala is one of DC’s largest non-political fundraisers raising millions of dollars in support of America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). More than 1,600 people – including members of Congress, higher education and business leaders, celebrities, and over 400 of the nation’s most promising HBCU students from around the country – participated in the sold-out, black-tie gala held at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, October 23rd.

The 30th Anniversary Awards Gala honored Roger W. Ferguson, president and CEO of TIAA with the CEO of the Year Award; Richard S. Lincer, partner at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP with the Thurgood Marshall Legacy Award; and Dr. Harry L. Williams, current president of Delaware State University, with the Education Leadership Award. VIP guest presenters included Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC), Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE), actors Jussie Smollett, Vivica A. Fox, and Darryl M. Bell, Miss USA 2016 Deshauna Barber, “Entertainment Tonight” Co-Host Kevin Frazier, and Hall of Famer and NBA Cares Ambassador Bob Lanier. Strada Education Network sponsored the evening’s musical guest, internationally acclaimed vocalist Glennis Grace.

“So many high-profile events call DC home, and to choose the best from this diverse landscape is no easy task,” says Beth Kormanik, BizBash executive editor. “Today’s top events reflect a sharply honed sense of mission, thoughtful production, and engaged guests—factors that all contribute to their success.”

“Executing such an elegant affair supporting our nation’s publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities is truly a team effort,“ said TMCF president & CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. “To be included again in the top ten list of DCs top events at number seven is truly a great honor not only for TMCF, but the entire Black College Community we humbly serve.”
