APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE 2022 NBA HBCU FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

HBCU Students Can Apply Today Through Feb. 20 to Intern at the NBA League Office or Teams

Inaugural Program to Take Place June 6

Aug. 12, 2022

Today, the NBA opened the application window for the first-ever class of the NBA HBCU Fellowship Program. The
Fellowship Program, which will be led by the NBA Foundation, aims to provide career development opportunities in the
business of basketball for undergraduate and graduate students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities
(HBCUs).
Current full-time HBCU undergraduate (rising juniors and seniors) and graduate students can apply via
bit.ly/NBAFELLOWS22 today through Feb. 20, 2022 to intern with the league
office or teams for a ten-week period this summer. Candidates will be interviewed on a rolling basis and offers will be
extended in early spring. The NBA family is committed to a diverse and equitable hiring process and has enlisted the
support of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the Black
College Community, to assist with recruitment of the more than 300,000 HBCU students that they serve annually and
the full HBCU network. TMCF will also manage logistics around housing and relocation for the inaugural class of fellows.

In total, 60 fellows will be selected by NBA teams and the league office to work within a variety of departments,
including ticket sales, corporate partnerships, legal, social responsibility, marketing and more. Fellows will be matched
with a league or team employee mentor as part of their experience. They will also participate in enriching professional
development opportunities throughout the summer run by the league office and NBA Foundation, including a two-day
orientation at the NBA league office in June, workshops and team building activities. Each fellow will be compensated and provided with transitional financial support.

The NBA HBCU Fellowship Program is part of an expansion of the league’s ongoing commitment to HBCUs announced
earlier this season that includes new programs designed to create greater opportunity for students and alumni,
encourage economic advancement and further celebrate their rich traditions.  As part of this partnership, the NBA will
develop new programs and events focused on the HBCU community – specifically around professional development,
career advancement and increased support and awareness for HBCU athletics and institutions – to support growth of
the next generation of leaders from the Black community and help increase representation of Black talent across the NBA league office and teams.
